Abstract

The article concerns the reconstruction of the women’s social roles in the societies of the Early nomads in the Southern Urals (the end of the 6th–3rd centuries BC) by analyzing the data of funerary sites. The analysis allows us to conclude that female social roles were quite numerous, and, in addition to the traditional female roles of wife/ concubine, mother and mistress, the burial grounds manifested the roles of female ritual specialists and women who may have taken part in military conflicts. Judging by the distribution of artifacts according to the age of the deceased, group of women who died at the age of 25 to 35 had the most diverse grave goods, this group accounts for the majority of burials with decorations, weapons and mirrors. Probably, the peak of the social activity of women fell at this age, which was reflected in the composition of the grave goods.
