Abstract

This report presents the results of studies on chronologically synchronous medieval cities of the Middle Volga region and the Chui Valley. The materials were obtained in the period from 2015 to 2022 during expeditions on a number of monuments of Russia (Bolgar, Bilyar, Narovchat and Tsarevskoye settlements) and Kyrgyzstan (Ken- Bulun, Tyolyok and Sretenka settlements). A general description of the methodology of geophysical surveys on archаeological monuments and the obtained results was given. Details of the field studies are summarized. Comparison of archaeological excavations and geophysical surveys makes it possible to confirm the importance of the applied natural science methods in the selection of research objects. At almost all sites selected for excavation based on the results of geophysical surveys, were identified capital structures that were not expressed on the surface, but clearly traced on the map of magnetic anomalies.
