Restoration of archaeological metal at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus: problems and prospects

The article reflects the work of the experimental laboratory for the stabilization and conservation of archaeological metal artifacts, established within the Department of Conservation and Use of Archaeological Heritage at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Currently, this field is new but promising for the Institute of History. The restoration of archaeological artifacts has been carried out for five years. The primary materials include archaeological finds made of iron, copper alloys, and lead, uncovered during excavations. Special attention is also given to collaboration with museums at both the national and regional levels. To date, the laboratory has restored over three hundred archaeological artifacts made of iron and non-ferrous metals, which have now been integrated into scholarly discourse and are exhibited in the Scientific and Archaeological Exhibition of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, as well as in several museums across the Republic of Belarus.
