Abstract

The article is devoted to the cultural and historical parallels observed in the development of coinage in the Tashkent oasis and South Kazakhstan in the early and late Middle Ages. One of the parallels is the use of early Sogdian characters in these regions, an earlier version of which is presented on coins like tetradrachms of Euthydemus in Western Sogd. Unique data are given on the beginning of the minting of a series of ancient Chach coins, synchro-nous with the issue of the pruts of Judea Agrippa I. Another parallel is observed in the use of the image of a lion in the iconography of the coinage. Images of different types of lions, according to the classification of coins created by the author, received their localization and dating.
